Top Things to do on a UK holiday

Unless you’ve been hiding down a well for the last few years, you probably know that we’ve hit something of an economic sticky patch. Things aren’t quite as rosy as we’d all hoped they would be and this has led to some pretty serious belt-tightening.

Reluctant to part with their holidays, many Brits have shown their money saving prowess by embracing trips within their home country, taking so called ‘staycations’.

The rise and fall of the foreign holiday

For most of the twentieth century, we Brits rarely had the opportunity to go abroad. After the second world war, it was a time of austerity and people who were lucky enough to go on holiday stayed on these shores.

Through the 50s and 60s, the age of the Great British holiday took off. Every seaside town would fill up with holidaymakers throughout the summer and this is a trend which has continued since.

The affordability of foreign holidays helped to make them a more viable option in later years. However, due to the recent changes to global economies, this affordability is not as competitive as it once was, prompting many Brits to return to their tried and tested home-grown holidays.

UK beauty spots

For those interested in domestic holidays, there are plenty of things you can do. Places like Brighton and Bournemouth are still swarming with tourists in the summer months and are ideal for those after a lively and colourful holiday.

If you fancy something a little more serene, the Lake and Peak Districts offer some of the country’s most stunning scenery whilst the Yorkshire Moors and Dales are equally beautiful.

Capital cities such as London and Edinburgh will always be a popular choice but other major cities such as Bath also offer plenty of attractions for tourists.

Take the tour

If you can’t pick between destinations then why not take the tour? Hire a caravan or pack the tent and set off to explore this great country of ours. Pack games and activities to keep the kids amused and research the attractions and points of interest in some of this country’s best areas.
