At Everest we have a complicated relationship with mountains. Due to our company name, we get quite a lot of misdirected enquiries about climbing gear and where to get hold of a decent Sherpa. We wonder if there’s a mountaineering company somewhere in Nepal that finds itself occasionally inundated with requests for top quality double glazing and fitted kitchens…

As a part of our ongoing fundraising activities for Cancer Research UK, last month a group of our staff decided to settle the competition once and for all. It was quickly decided that attempting to scale Mount Everest would probably be a little bit too ambitious for a gang of novice ramblers from Hertfordshire, so they plumped for something closer to home and slightly less dangerous – the Three Peaks Challenge! This month we’re proud and delighted to announce that Melvyn Handy, one of the longest-serving members of our team, is celebrating an incredible forty years with the company.

Melvyn has had a varied and illustrious career with us since he joined us as a Transport Manager at our Cheshunt office back in 1971, the year of glam rock and decimalisation! In 1974 he moved into the commercial department and became a contract manager, handling our contracts and customer quotes. He spent several highly successful years in this role before taking on a new role in the Sales Order Dept. View all of this post >

At Everest we always like to celebrate the achievements of our staff members, which is why we’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Kerry Emmons from our Head Office Personnel team, who successfully completed the Cancer Research UK ‘Race For Life’ on Sunday 8th May.

Race for Life is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK, inspiring women of all ages and fitness levels to run, walk or jog to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Like many of the women who get involved in the event, Kerry was running in memory of a loved one. She tragically lost her husband Terry Emmons to cancer seven years ago, and was inspired to complete the run in his honour.

“It was a great day and very emotional” says Kerry. “Terry was a really fun guy and very well respected by everyone who knew him. It felt like the right time to do this to honour his memory.” View all of this post >
